Portobello Dream Road

What’s your story, morning glory?

You arrive in London at 9 a.m and have only 12 hours to spare. You drink your morning coffee and make your way to that well known street, the one on which you wish to wander the most, ever since you read the enthusiastic confession of a shopaholic.
Jittery, you take the subway … get a little side tracked, go up the stairs, break free from the underground and yes, you’ve arrived on Portobello Road. Yay! Strangely, the air seems different. The people are different, there’s that something in the air.
“Look at the clothes on that old man and, oh, look at this car! “; “Look at that, that’s the car of my dreams. Or not, this is it! Enough, stop it!”
That’s about what I was thinking as I was smiling gleefully at the sight of the pink doors and the vintage stores with well deserved prices.

This colorful Universe is willing to smile at anybody. The typewriter, the ancient maps, hairbrushes adorned with pearls ( too bad I miss the blonde curls ), clocks full of history, shops with soft sweaters, in which your body can relax … just like in a spa.

People take pictures of themselves and there’s this constant bustle. I love it, the street is so alive with positive energy. I don’t want to leave, I want to stay here, without the pressure of the passing hours, to live in one of those colored houses, preferably the blue one, for which I have fallen, to have a timeless car and the sun to stay up in the sky.
Oh, and to dye my hair orange and travel the years every day through unique and colorful outfits. That’s about it.

Still, I had to wake up from this day dream and say “So long!” to Portobello Road.

Now, while I enjoy the nectar of the mind ( lavender tea ), I relive every single memory and happening with a smile on my face and an Ella Fitzgerald song in the background.

Bye-Bye, Butterfly!
